Description:

Compassion and Service (Seva) lie at the center of religious traditions. Compassionate action forms an important part of the religious practice as implemented through “Service (Seva) to others”. Millions of people volunteer for Service and contribute billions of hours to improve the lives of many, each having his/her unique reason to give back.

This conference will bring together several Faiths to showcase their service related projects and activities. It will explore the “motivation” behind such selfless service and the role that the Faith plays in it.

Participating Faiths: Jainism, Christianity (Roman Catholic and LDS Church), Islam, Judaism, Hinduism (BAPS), Sikhism, Buddhism

Moderator: Girish Shah, Board Member of Jain Center of Northern California and Silicon Valley Interreligious Council

Dignitary: Jain Acharya Shri Chandanaji, Head of Veerayatan, who has made service as the essence of the Jain religious practice.

This event is being organized in concert with the celebration of the 5th anniversary of Diksha (Ordination) of Jain Sadhvi (Female Asctic) Shri Sanghmitraji who took her vows five years ago at our temple in Milpitas. This event will be graced by Senior Jain ascetic (Head of Veerayatan Religious Order) Acharya Shri Chandanaji.

Visit with students from India

A group of twelve students from India (ages 18 to 24) will be visiting several cities in the USA this Summer as part of a trip organized by JAINA, the Federation of Jain Associations in North America, an umbrella organization that preserves and shares Jain Dharma and the Jain Way of Life.

SiVIC and the Jain Center of Northern California invite local residents, especially young people, to join these young people for a program and vegetarian lunch at the Jain Center in Milpitas. The program will include time for participants to say a few words about their activities in the Interreligious/ interfaith arena.

Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting

Protecting and Preserving the Environment

It is our pleasure to invite you to the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the new Solar Infrastructure at JCNC.  Because this is a landmark event for JCNC, the mayor of Milpitas, Mr. Jose Esteves, will be honoring us with his presence.

The program will begin at 11:00 with the Opening Ceremony, followed by the Ribbon Cutting with Mayor Esteves at 12:00 noon. There will then be a vegetarian lunch.

Ethical Eating

For those of you who may not have been able to attend the Interreligious Leaders Forum session last week on “What Our Religious Traditions Tell Us about the Food We Do—and Don’t—Eat,” here is a video of the presentations.

The event was co-sponsored by the Markkula Center for Business Ethics at Santa Clara University, and featured a panel that included Ven JianYing, Sunnyvale Zen Center; Dr. Inder Mohan SIngh, San Jose Gurdwara; Madhulika Singh, PreetiRang Sanctuary; and Deven Shah, Jain Center. The panel was moderated by Dr. Sarah Robinson.
